The i.MX series through the ages

With the introduction of the first i.MX processors in 2000, the series continued to evolve, defining the technical standard with each new generation.

Notable are the i.MX 6, i.MX 7 and currently i.MX8, each of which further increased the range of possibilities. The i.MX6 series, for example, featured single, dual and quad cores for the first time. The 32-bit architecture appeared here for the first time.

The 7 series expanded the application areas of the NXP processors to include IoT applications.

With the current i.MX8 family, powerful Cortex processors are now installed, which enable advanced graphics processing and complex audio applications. Already during development, the focus of this processor generation was on performance and AI applications.
